Overview: This was the first Mobilepro to host the newer Windows CE v2.11. It would be the standard OS for the Mobilepros 770, 800, 880, and 780 to follow. Running now at 80mHz over the 700's 54mHz, the speed was noticeable. The ram also doubled to 16mb, which mean greater storage and running of applications. Of course the "C" identifies it as being the first color Mobilepro, and the first to use the DSTN technology that all future Mobilepros would host. With 8 bit 256 color as its standard, many found the device to be very pleasing on the eyes. It has the same slots as the 700...so nothing was given up. It did however start the Mobilepro proprietory synchronization cable nightmare. I say nightmare, because the cable was made for the machine, and future MIPS Mobilepros. A standard DB9 serial connector would not work on the Mobilepro side of the cable. You either had the cable, or you didn't serial sync your device. With the adoption of CE v2.11, Microsoft Activesync would become the standard for pocketpc and hpc serial and usb synchronization (though USB is not supported on this old machine). Many consider this the best built ever of the Mobilepros. You can still find them on eBay, and the speed, while slower than the 770, isn't significantly noticeable. It also was the first Mobilepro to adopt Lithium Ion (LION) battery technology for increased battery life and usage. Overall, it was, and still is, a very nice Mobilepro that you can pick up relatively cheaply these days. A far cry from the original $850 sticker.
